MYRAWW

Myra Rachelle Cohen, aka "Myraww," is a Brooklyn-born singer-songwriter with a keen talent for bringing listeners on an adventure through her whimsical world.  She has been cultivating her artistic and musical talents since she was a child.  Her mother shared her love for music with her, singing her lullabies to help her sleep and hired a piano teacher who gave her lessons.  Myraww, the youngest of 4 children of Shirley and Marvin (Mickey) Cohen, grew up listening to many different types of music that her parents and siblings listened to, which deeply impacted her songwriting.  Her mother loved klezmer and classical music and played the piano.  She remembers every time her mother made a mistake, she would curse in Yiddish, and Myraww always thought that was part of the song.  Myra's father loved everyone from Frank Sinatra, Edith Piaf to Luciano Pavarotti.  Her sister Judith loved Ritchie Havens, Joni Mitchel, Laura Nyro, Carole King and James Taylor.  Her brothers Steven and Robby loved the Beatles, Buffalo Springfield, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, and Neil Young.

Myra always gravitated and befriended artists and musicians.  She moved to Long Beach, New York in 2000, and was fortunate to meet producer, musician and educator Benoir in Long Beach, New York.  Benoir taught her music theory, piano and guitar and she has since collaborated with him on many of her original songs, performing at Film Festivals, Awards Dinners, and various concert events.  She was honored by Artist In Partnership, Inc. of Long Beach, NY's 5th Annual Women in the Arts Award in recognition of her original music and contribution to Long Beach's musical community.  Her collaboration with Johnny Mystic featured her unique voice on his single "Magic Lantern", and her original song "On This Lazy Sunday Afternoon" was selected for the Random LB Recordz compilation 1 a few years ago.

A strong supporter of the arts, Myra can be seen at many of the concerts around town and has met many fine musicians with whom she has collaborated along her path.  Christine Solimeno and Benoir worked together with Myraww to create and finish her upcoming album "Alternate Universe" written entirely during the Covid-19 pandemic.  As always, Myraww's songs are witty and humorous with melodies and percolating rhythms that will make you bop your head and sing along.  She writes with passion about themes that affect us all like love, death and zoom meetings.   She especially loves to involve her audience when she performs by encouraging them to sing along.  Her sense of humor and empathic abilities infuse her presence and songwriting.  Music and art express feelings that are difficult to verbalize.  Her dream is to bring comfort, compassion, hope, joy and humor to everyone.
